Does the disinfectant, especially Spa Balancer, affect the filter performance of Ego3 filters?
We are repeatedly asked whether the choice of hot tub disinfection method affects the filter behavior or whether the EGO3 hot tub filter is compatible with various disinfectants.
Ego3 always works perfectly regardless of water treatment
Basically, it can be said that the EGO³ filter always delivers its maximum performance regardless of the type of disinfection. However, some agents generally shorten the service life of hot tub filters.
This question very often arises in connection with the product Spa Balancer. Spa Balancer is a good but very expensive product and unfortunately has a negative impact on the lifespan of a hot tub cartridge filter . Many users know this because they have to clean their old paper filters at very short intervals (often every 1-2 weeks). This is because Spa Balancer or similar All In products bind the finest dirt particles into larger parts so that these can also be filtered by normal cartridge filters with about 40-50 micron separation sharpness (= smallest particles that can be filtered). However, this causes the filter pores to clog or stick much faster. In the EGO3 hot tub filter, these agents also clog the filter material (filterballs) faster, but are not nearly as noticeable due to the enormously larger filter surface and the 3-dimensional filter structure.
In addition, this agent is not necessary for water clarity with EGO3 hot tub filters, because the EGO3 filter is the only filter worldwide that has the Zero Dirt Technology and filters out all particles, even those as small as 1 micron.
I have been using Spa Balancer for some time and my water becomes cloudy as soon as I use EGo3 filters!
Does the EGo3 filter perform worse when disinfecting with Spa Balancer?
No!
The EGo3 filter always filters perfectly regardless of the agents used, but it reveals a major disadvantage of the Spa Balancer System, which unfortunately only becomes apparent after several years.
Our filter first cleans the hot tub pipes!
Spa Balancer tends to cause slime buildup in the pipes. When EGo3 filters are used, the flow rate increases significantly due to the much lower flow resistance (which incidentally greatly extends the lifespan of the circulation pump) and this deposited dirt in the pipes is "scrubbed" away.
It looks like the water becomes cloudy when using EGo3 filters or because you are using EGo3 hot tub filter. In reality, the filter only shows you how much dirt is already in the pipes and it can take up to several weeks until everything is finally out.
But it is very good and important that this comes out, because contamination and slime buildup in the pipes is always very bad.
If you put the old filter back in between, the water immediately becomes clear again. And one believes that it filters better. No, it only removes the dirt from the pipes, but the pipes remain heavily contaminated and the water treatment requires more and more chemicals.
Ego3 filters reduce the need for chemicals!
Therefore, if you have used Spa Balancer and are now switching to EGo3 filters, please just keep it running even if the water becomes cloudy at first (it takes a little while for the dirt to be filtered out again and dirt keeps coming in).
Just wait and let it run. Depending on the existing contamination, it takes a few days to weeks, but after that, the water naturally becomes crystal clear and your pipes are finally much cleaner again.
