Filter balls for whirlpools - what matters

The Ego3 whirlpool filter has been a completely new filter option for whirlpools for several years. Our filter makes use of the excellent filter properties of 3-dimensional filter balls and is therefore far superior to the old filter cartridges in terms of filter performance, filter capacity and ease of use. And they are also much cheaper and produce no residual waste, only recycling waste and very little at that.

There are now various filter balls on the market. These can be divided into two categories:

1. fiber balls

    - as use from Ego3. These consist of recycled PET continuous fibers that are suitable for Zero Dirt technology. There are also different versions of the fiber balls (e.g. in blue, grey, green without bacterial protection for Koi ponds , green with bacteria protection = original EGo3 filter ball ). These variants are optimized for the application in terms of diameter, fiber thickness and composition. Therefore you should only use original Ego3 filter balls for your whirlpool. These are just the right size/stiffness for hot tub pressures. We guarantee that it is the cheapest and best solution for you. Because just because fiber balls (such as the blue Fibalon Pool Filterballs are cheaper) isn't really an advantage, as the lifespan is much shorter due to the thinner fiber. These blue fiber balls are optimized for sand kettle systems (with backwash) for swimming pools with 10 times less suction. The best combination of price and durability are the original Ego3 filter balls. Otherwise we would use other filter balls ;-)

1. cotton balls

    (usually in white) - a very cheap variant of round filter material. Unfortunately, these are completely unsuitable for our purpose in whirlpools and swim spas. They are much too compact/dense in structure and much too soft in terms of strength for our whirlpool pressure conditions. These balls clog the Ego3 filter system within a very short time and therefore have to be changed again within a few days, so the cost advantage is unfortunately gone again. There is also a risk that if these clump together, the pressure in the Ego3 container will be so high that the bottom or the entire container will break. The pumps are immediately affected when these cotton balls compress and in the worst case the pump burns out or the container breaks and parts of it destroy the pump or clog the lines.

As another special form, there are cubes made of fibers. Cubes are punched out of filter mats. These are made of similar material to fiber balls but have three major disadvantages. Firstly, they are not as stable in structure as filter balls and thus clog the filter very quickly. Secondly, due to the square shape, they cannot be arranged in the Ego3 filter container with the intermediate channels required for whirlpool use, as is the case with round filter balls, which again leads to rapid clumping and thirdly, countless fibers come loose from the filter cubes get into the water because the edges are cut and the fibers are interrupted.

We have tested all variants very extensively and are constantly testing new ones filter balls Products. And so far only the green filter balls with disinfectant effect are 100% suitable. All other variants are unfortunately not even remotely suitable. They are actually just copies of the form or the material without taking the necessary properties into account. Unfortunately, the manufacturers lack the know-how that a filter ball for a whirlpool has to be able to do. Unfortunately, just being round or made of one fiber is not enough.

Therefore only use original EGo3 filter material! No other filter material offered comes close to doing the job and will cost you more work and money combined with the risk of damage to the EGo3 filter canister or your spa.
