The differences in power consumption between premium providers and cheap products are enormous. We know of reports of power consumption of 30,- to 250,- Euros and more per month! And so a supposed hot tub Bargains can quickly become a financial bottomless pit. And the ongoing operation quickly costs more than the entire hot tub ever cost when buying. So be careful what you buy. Unfortunately, the running costs of a hot tub exceed the purchase price many times over and a 4000,- Euro hot tub wasn't cheap if I then need 2000 euros a year for the operation. The hot tub Electricity consumption is therefore the most important factor in running costs.
What are these differences? What is important for a low hot tub energy consumption?
- the perfect hot tub Cover: with highly insulating foam, all-round outer sealing lip, sealing strips between the two cover halves, suitable fastenings for tensioning and in general the cover should be as thick as possible.
- the perfect overall insulation: Fully foam-insulated models definitely use less electricity than all comparable partially insulated models. Regardless of the fancy names these reduced insulations are given :-) So don't be fooled by names like Arctic Pack, Premium Insulation, Top Insulation, etc. In my opinion, full foam saves 50% of the heat loss compared to partial foam. However, there are only a few premium providers such as Artesian Spas, Hotsprings, Sundance and others who dare to do this, as the workmanship has to be perfect. These manufacturers also guarantee electricity consumption of around 1 euro per day. Leaks would be a problem with full foam, so the rule applies: If you use full foam, you build pools that don't leak! That's why these whirlpools are more expensive, but you can easily save 6,000 euros in electricity costs in 10 years!
- the perfect choice of components for whirlpool operation:
- small efficient circulation pump!!! Everything from 80 watts to 500 watts is available here. There are also two-stage large pumps that circulate at a low level and 500 watts. This means that with a circulation time of 20 hours, there is a difference of around 8 kWh per day in electricity consumption
- efficient brand massage pumps
A few manufacturers guarantee low power consumption in writing. Artesian Spas /Beta Wellness (Made in USA products from Artesian Spas - excluding Beta's own Infinity&Eco line), Hotsprings and Sundance/Armstark (Sundance Spas Made in Mexico - excluding the second cheap Chinese brand). Here they guarantee around 1 euro per day (at 21 cents/KWH). Many other manufacturers talk about this. Many also promise it falsely, but only very few, such as the three mentioned above, provide it in writing. And the differences are striking. So with a cheap Chinese product you can easily use 3 euros per day of electricity, and that's a 7000 euro difference in electricity consumption in 10 years!
So that you can separate reputable providers from "less reputable" ones and see exactly how much your hot tub really costs (including 10 years of operation), I have prepared a comparison table for you to download after this article. In this table, all relevant data is requested and you can have this confirmed by the whirlpool seller. This way you have an objective comparison of what you will really have to pay.
So be careful and have your electricity consumption confirmed in writing!!!
